คำแนะนำต้นฉบับ (ภาษาอังกฤษ)

The Gion Festival is a festival of Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto that is said to have begun in 869 with prayers for the end of an epidemic. Over the course of a month, various religious ceremonies and events are held, with the yamahoko procession being the main highlight. The yamahoko procession takes place twice, on July 17th and July 24th. The magnificent and ornate yamahoko floats parading through the streets of Kyoto are also called a "moving art museum," and as a symbol of summer in Kyoto, they captivate many people from around the world. On July 17th, 23 yamahoko floats parade led by the Naginata Hoko. The highlights include the impressive "tsujimawashi" where giant yamahoko are turned at intersections, the sounds of Gion music, and the splendid decorative ornaments. On July 24th, 11 yamahoko floats parade. One of the highlights is "kuji-aratame," a ceremony where the order of the procession, which is determined by lottery beforehand, is verified by the mayor to ensure there are no mistakes. The scene of representatives of each yamahoko reading aloud the documents recording the order is a moment where you can feel the traditions unique to the Gion Festival. The Gion Festival, registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, is a representative festival of Kyoto that has been passed down for over a thousand years. The yamahoko procession, which is the greatest highlight, captivates many people as a grand traditional event symbolizing summer in Kyoto. Please enjoy the power and splendor of this festival from the special viewing seats set up on Oike-dori, the main street of Kyoto.
