An IDP issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention is not valid in Japan. Check that your IDP booklet names the 1949 Geneva Convention.

Who can drive
Drivers must be 18 or older and hold a licence valid in Japan. Each driver drives their own single-seat kart.
Important information
- Karts use ordinary roads and follow normal traffic rules; they never use expressways.
- Mobile phones may not be used while driving.
- Book at least 2 days ahead. Free cancellation up to 48 hours before the start time; after that the booking is non-refundable.
- Wear flat, closed-toe shoes. Heels, sandals and long skirts are not allowed at the operators we list.
- Karts are open-air: bring a jacket in the cooler months and sun protection in summer.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a driving licence to go-kart in Japan?
Yes. Street karts drive on public roads, so each driver needs a Japanese licence, a 1949 Geneva Convention IDP, or — for licences from Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco or Taiwan — an official Japanese translation.
Is an IDP issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention accepted?
No. Japan only recognises IDPs issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention.
Do I need go-kart experience?
No racing experience is needed, but you should be a confident everyday driver: you are in normal traffic, on the left-hand side of the road.
What happens if it rains?
Tours usually run in light rain. If the operator cancels for heavy rain or a typhoon, you get a full refund or a new date.
How do I book?
