🗾 Japan Travel

Do I need a visa for Japan?
Depends on your nationality. Many countries (US, EU, Australia, etc.) get visa-free entry for 90 days. Vietnamese citizens need a tourist visa. Check with your local Japanese embassy.
Best time to visit Japan?
Cherry blossom season (late March - mid April) and autumn leaves (November) are most popular. Summer (Jul-Aug) is hot but has festivals. Winter (Dec-Feb) has beautiful snow in Hokkaido.
How much does Japan travel cost per day?
Budget: ¥5,000-8,000/day. Comfortable: ¥15,000-25,000/day. Luxury: ¥40,000+/day. Including food, accommodation, transport, attractions.
Do I need to speak Japanese?
No. Major cities have English signs and many staff speak basic English. Google Translate works great. But learning a few phrases is appreciated.
What power outlets does Japan use?
Japan uses Type A (2 flat pins), 100V. You may need an adapter and possibly a converter for high-wattage devices like hair dryers.
How to get WiFi/eSIM in Japan?
Buy eSIM via OlaChill (from ¥3,300 incl. tax), rent pocket WiFi at the airport, or use free WiFi at convenience stores and train stations.
Should I tip in Japan?
No! Tipping is not customary in Japan and can even be considered rude. Excellent service is included in the price.

🎫 Booking Japan Tours

Which tour is best for first-time Japan visitors?
The Golden Route (Tokyo + Kyoto + Osaka) over 5–7 days is the most popular. On the Japan Tours page, filter by 'Tokyo' or 'Kyoto' and then toggle the 'Popular' tab.
Do tours pick up from the airport?
Most tours depart from city-centre stations (Tokyo Station, Shinjuku, etc.), not from airports. If your flight lands in the evening, book one hotel night and join a tour starting the next day.
Do I need a Japan visa before booking?
Vietnamese and some other passport holders need a tourist visa. You can book first and keep the confirmation email with your itinerary documents — check with the Japanese embassy or consulate where you apply which documents they require.
Is hotel pickup included?
Most tours use fixed meeting points at major stations, not hotel pickup. The exact meeting point, with a map link, is emailed after booking.
What currency is charged for tours?
Tour prices are listed in JPY. Online payment is processed securely by Stripe. Available methods are shown at checkout and may include credit/debit cards (such as Visa, Mastercard and JCB), Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPay, Konbini, Alipay and WeChat Pay, depending on eligibility, device and availability. Selected services may also offer payment on site where expressly stated on the product page.

🚄 Trains & JR Pass

What is the JR Pass?
The Japan Rail Pass gives unlimited rides on most JR trains nationwide for 7, 14 or 21 consecutive days, including Hikari and Kodama shinkansen (Nozomi and Mizuho need an extra fee). Since the October 2023 price increase it mainly pays off if you cover several long distances within the pass period — compare it with the total of single tickets before you buy.
Where to buy JR Pass?
OlaChill does not sell the nationwide Japan Rail Pass. Regional rail passes (for example Kansai or Kyushu area passes) are sold as tickets under Attraction tickets — book online and your confirmation and instructions arrive by email.
How does the Shinkansen work?
Bullet trains run at up to 320 km/h and are known for their punctuality. Most have non-reserved and reserved cars; some trains are reserved-only. Book reserved seats at station ticket machines or counters, or online (for example the SmartEX app on the Tokaido–Sanyo–Kyushu lines).
What are Suica/Pasmo IC cards?
Rechargeable IC cards for tap-and-go on trains and buses, and for paying at convenience stores and vending machines. Top up with cash at station ticket machines. Essential for getting around!

📦 Booking Services

How to book a bus?
Go to the Highway Bus page. Routes sold as ready-to-book tickets are paid online and the e-voucher arrives by email. For other routes, choose the route, date and passengers and submit a booking request — OlaChill confirms the seats and emails your e-ticket within 30 minutes.
How does car rental work?
Self-drive in Okinawa: three Naha Airport packages (economy, SUV, 7–8-seat minivan) are booked online at daily rates, with confirmation by email. Elsewhere, choose the car, dates and pick-up point and send a request — OlaChill confirms availability and the price by email, usually within 24 hours. Prefer a driver? Choose Car rental → With a driver.
How to buy attraction tickets?
Book them right on OlaChill: choose the ticket and date and pay online. Your e-voucher or QR code is emailed once the ticket is issued. Most can simply be shown on your phone; some must be exchanged for a paper ticket at a designated counter — each product page explains how its ticket is used.
How to buy eSIM?
Go to the eSIM page, choose a plan and submit your order — nothing is charged yet. We email payment instructions together with your QR code; scan it on your phone before flying and it works on arrival in Japan.
How long for order confirmation?
Attraction tickets: once you have paid, your e-voucher or QR code is emailed as soon as the ticket is issued. Highway bus requests: e-ticket within 30 minutes. Car rental requests: availability and price confirmed by email, usually within 24 hours. Anything sent as a request rather than paid online (for example group coaches, or helicopter flights without a live seat calendar yet) is confirmed by email after availability is checked.

💳 Payment

Is online payment safe?
Payments are handled by Stripe, a PCI DSS Level 1 certified provider. Card details are entered on Stripe's own secure form and are never stored on OlaChill's servers.
What currency is used?
Prices are quoted in JPY. At checkout Stripe charges the currency shown on the confirmation screen; your card issuer may convert it and add a foreign-transaction fee.
What's the refund policy?
Cancellation, amendment and refund terms vary by product and are shown before the order is confirmed, on the product page and at checkout. Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method and processed within approximately 5–10 business days; the final posting time depends on the card issuer or financial institution. Unless the product terms state otherwise, refunds are not provided for tickets or vouchers that have been used, no-shows, requests received after the cancellation deadline, or products clearly identified as non-refundable before purchase. A QR code or e-voucher counts as used from the moment it is scanned, redeemed or installed on a device — not from the moment it is issued to you.

📱 Japan Travel eSIM

What is an eSIM?
eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM built into your phone. No physical SIM tray needed — just scan a QR code to activate.
Which phones support eSIM?
iPhone XS+ (2018+), Google Pixel 3+, Samsung Galaxy S20+/Note 20+/Z Fold+/Z Flip+, Xiaomi 12T+/13+, Oppo Find X3+.
Which iPhones support eSIM?
iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and later. iPhone 13+: dual eSIM. iPhone 14 and later bought in the US: eSIM only, no physical SIM tray.
Which Android phones support eSIM?
Google Pixel 3+, Samsung Galaxy S20+, Note 20+, Z Fold/Flip, Xiaomi 12T+, Motorola Razr 2019+, Oppo Find X3+.
How many eSIMs can one phone have?
An iPhone can store eight or more eSIMs; iPhone 13 and later can use two at the same time. On Android it depends on the model — many recent phones can use two lines at once (two eSIMs, or an eSIM plus a physical SIM).
Does the eSIM have a phone number?
No — OlaChill travel eSIM is DATA only. Use Zalo/LINE/WhatsApp/FaceTime over data for calls.
Does the eSIM work outside Japan?
No — OlaChill eSIM works only in Japan (docomo 5G/4G network).
eSIM vs physical SIM?
eSIM is digital, installed via QR, never lost. Physical SIM is a plastic card that needs tray swap. eSIM arrives by email.
Does my phone need to be unlocked?
Yes — your phone must be carrier-unlocked. Most phones bought outright are unlocked.
How early should I buy the eSIM?
Order a few days before you fly — we recommend 3–5 days — so there is time to receive the QR code and to install and test it at home on Wi-Fi.
What speed does the eSIM provide?
Plans run on the docomo 5G/4G network: 5G where there is 5G coverage and your phone supports it, 4G/LTE elsewhere. Actual speed depends on where you are, the time of day and your phone.
Is data limited?
Depends on the plan: Unlimited plans have no data cap. 3GB/day plans: after 3GB in a day the speed slows (you are not cut off), and full speed returns the next day.
What happens when data runs out?
3GB/day plans: after 3GB the speed slows for the rest of the day — you stay connected. Unlimited plans have no data cap. Need more? Buy another plan on the eSIM page.
Can I use hotspot/tethering?
Yes, at no extra charge — share with a laptop, tablet or another phone. Hotspot use counts toward your plan's data and drains the battery faster.
How much data does Google Maps use?
Navigation: 5MB/hour. Static map viewing: 1MB/10 min. A 3GB/day plan is plenty for all-day Maps use.
