Cherry Blossom Season | An Illuminated Floral Haven Mii-dera holds long-standing status as a premier cherry blossom viewing location throughout Kansai. Lake Biwa Canal (Biwako Sosui) Constructed during the Taisho era, the First Lake Biwa Canal ranks among Japan's most established waterway systems, extending roughly 2.7 kilometers. Known as the "King of Canals," it was built primarily to transport Lake Biwa water to Kyoto for consumption and farming needs. Finished in 1912, this engineering accomplishment helped control Lake Biwa's water volume, managed flooding, and brought water supply to adjacent farming communities.
