The Abe River Fireworks Festival (安倍川花火大会), which vividly colors the summer night sky of Shizuoka City (静岡市), is a historic fireworks display that began in 1953 (Showa 28) with a prayer for the repose of war dead and a wish for post-war reconstruction. In 2026, it will mark its 73rd edition, attracting many people every year as one of Shizuoka Prefecture's (静岡県) largest summer traditions. The spectacular sight of approximately 10,000 to 15,000 fireworks launched from the Abe Riverbed (安倍川河川敷), including shakudama (large 1-shaku shells) and extra-large starmines, is a must-see.
