Lima belas hari menyusuri seluruh tulang punggung Jepang dengan kereta, dari ujung utara ke ujung selatan. Utara dulu: Shinkansen Tōhoku ke Sendai dan pulau-pulau pinus Matsushima, aula emas Hiraizumi, lalu jalur Hokkaidō menembus Terowongan Seikan sepanjang 54 km di bawah laut menuju Hakodate — pasar paginya dan panorama malam dari Gunung Hakodate. Kembali ke selatan menuju taman-taman Kanazawa, Kyoto tiga hari, Nara, Himeji, Hiroshima dan Miyajima — dan akhirnya jalur Sanyō menyeberang ke Kyushu untuk kedai yatai Fukuoka dan pelabuhan Nagasaki.
