Rates include CDW insurance, the ECO surcharge and tax. Rentals of 5 days or more are billed with a per-extra-day rate.

The car is reserved manually with Nippon after your payment, so confirmation takes time. Closer dates cannot be selected.

⛽ Paid at the Nippon counter

Fuel, ETC highway tolls and any options added on the spot (snow tyres, child seats, ETC card rental) are charged by Nippon directly and are NOT in the price above. Bring a valid credit card — Nippon verifies the card even if you pay cash.

🪪 Documents you must bring

An International Driving Permit (1949 Geneva Convention) together with your home licence, your passport, and a credit card in the driver's name. Missing any one of these means Nippon will refuse the car, and the payment cannot be refunded.

Prepare documents
International Driving Permit (IDP) + passport, or a JAF translation + your home licence, or a Japanese licence. Germany/France/Switzerland/Belgium/Taiwan/Monaco/Estonia must use a JAF translation.

Reserve online (7 steps)
Licence type → pickup → drop-off → pickup time → return time → vehicle class → coupon → confirm. Book 1–3 days ahead, or 2–4 weeks ahead in peak season.

Pick-up at counter
Bring the PDF voucher + IDP/JAF + home licence + credit card + passport. Sign the contract, verify details, pay. Airport pickup is faster than train station (5–15 min shuttle).
Inspect & drive off
Walk around the car with staff to log scratches + fuel level + ETC card. Adjust seat/mirrors. ETC, English GPS, child seat and snow tyres are optional add-ons.
Return & pay extras
Refuel to full before returning. Staff inspects for damage. One-way within Hokkaido is common (¥5,000–¥10,000); between major islands (Honshu ↔ Kyushu) is usually not supported. After-hours drop-off (after 22:00) carries a ¥1,000–3,000 fee.
