14:00 — Black sand bath at Takegawara

• 1879 historic onsen — buried in 50°C hot sand for 15 min
• ¥1,500 + ¥210 onsen afterwards
• Feels like a gentle bake — fantastic detox

16:00 — Hyotan Onsen

• Beppu's most famous public bath
• 9 different baths — mud, sand, waterfall
• ¥800 day pass

18:00 — Ramen + sake dinner

• Ramen Yokomon — pig-trotter ramen ¥1,200, the local specialty
• Or ryokan kaiseki

19:30 — Back to Fukuoka / Beppu ryokan stay
