Some locals call “CAVE OKINAWA” “ぬちしぬじガマ” in the Okinawan dialect, meaning “the cave that saved lives.” It is known as an auspicious and blessed place, and is revered by local residents. The name originates from its history of saving lives on two occasions. The first was during the Ryukyu era. According to legend, after a battle, the prince of 今帰仁城, a World Heritage Site, fled into this cave and survived, later going on to build 伊波城. The second was during the Battle of Okinawa, when approximately 300 residents took refuge here and everyone survived. As a boy and a girl were born during the evacuation, the cave became known as an auspicious place. Truly, it is a cave that helped people survive, and it has come to attract attention as a power spot. The highlight of “CAVE OKINAWA” is its highly unusual symbolic “red-and-white” stalactite formation. This space is said to be where a boy and a girl were born, making it an especially auspicious place. There are also many other stalactite formations, including the “Golden Rock,” which is believed to enhance financial luck, “Sparkling Stones,” and “Countless Icicle Rocks.” In addition, you can see the heart-shaped “Heart Rock,” which is perfect for sharing on social media, and enjoy a mysterious cave exploration. Since February 2018, the lighting and pathways have been renovated.
