"Kyoto Gion Matsuri" Yamahoko Junko (Float Procession) Paid Seating

"The Gion Matsuri, which is said to have originated in the year 869 to pray for the eradication of plagues, is a grand festival of Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto. Spanning an entire month, it features a diverse array of sacred rituals and events, with the absolute highlight being the Yamahoko Junko (float procession). The Yamahoko Junko takes place in two separate parts, on July 17th and July 24th. The magnificent and gorgeously decorated floats processing through the streets of Kyoto are also referred to as ""moving museums,"" captivating large crowds of both domestic and international visitors as an iconic summer tradition of Kyoto. On July 17th, a procession of 23 floats takes place, led by the Naginata Hoko. The main highlights include the powerful ""Tsujimawashi,"" where the massive floats are dynamically turned at intersections, the enchanting melodies of the Gion-bayashi festival music, and the brilliantly dazzling decorative textiles and ornaments. On July 24th, 11 floats participate in the procession. One of the key highlights is the ""Kuji-aratame"" (lottery ticket inspection ceremony). The order of the procession is determined in advance by a lottery, and during the parade, the Mayor of Kyoto performs a ritual to verify that the floats are in the correct order. The sight of each float's representative reading out the document stating their assigned order is a moment where you can truly feel the unique, time-honored tradition of the Gion Matsuri.
