Japan, unfiltered (the route I'd actually take you on). I've lived in Japan for years now, and this is the trip I'd plan for my friends visiting for the first time, and honestly t…

🗓 Day by day
OSAKA: Arrival, Culinary Adventures & Initial Impressions
Your first moments in Japan will be a sensory overload. The myriad sounds, enticing aromas, and ubiquitous vending machines create an electric atmosphere. Embrace it. Osaka is an ideal city for your introduction, welcoming you with its food. After dropping off your luggage, step out to explore. Try various foods, even those you can’t quite identify. Say yes to everything edible on a stick. This day is all about immersing yourself in the vibrant culture of Osaka.
OSAKA: Discovering Hidden Treasures
The second day invites you to explore the less publicized aspects of Osaka at a leisurely pace. Starting early allows you to visit Osaka Castle before the tourist crowds arrive, making it a highlight of your journey. Spend the afternoon meandering through the city, shopping, and indulging in further culinary delights.
KYOTO: Embrace the Tranquil Start
The train ride from Osaka to Kyoto takes just 15 minutes via shinkansen, yet the atmosphere shifts radically. Kyoto encourages a slower pace, inviting you to appreciate its scenic beauty. Success in Kyoto depends on timing—experiencing its most popular sites early can be particularly rewarding.
KYOTO: Essential Landmarks and Local Discoveries
On your second day in Kyoto, you will visit the famous sights that truly deserve their acclaim, while also uncovering lesser-known gems. Start with an early visit to Arashiyama before the bamboo grove becomes crowded, followed by a laid-back afternoon through neighborhoods that are often overlooked.
NAGOYA: The Underrated City (Ghibli Park & Exceptional Cuisine)
This is my adopted home. Many travelers bypass Nagoya, which I find puzzling. The city offers two compelling reasons to pause: Ghibli Park, a unique experience in Japan, and its distinctive food culture that many locals, myself included, tout as the best in the country. Although one day may not suffice, it’s a perfect introduction.
TOKYO: Arrival and Immersion into the City
Tokyo serves as the concluding chapter, meriting two entire days. The first day is about absorbing the city's dynamic energy, getting oriented, and experiencing those quintessential Tokyo moments. Avoid over-scheduling; instead, allow the city to guide you.
TOKYO: Final Full Day (No Missed Opportunities)
On your last day, engage in any activities you haven't yet experienced, ensuring Asakusa is included in your plans. This historic area feels as though you’ve traveled back in time. In Tokyo, everyone finds their own neighborhood; today is dedicated to discovering yours.
