When you move to a new address in Japan, you must register within 14 days at your local city or ward office (Shiyakusho/Kuyakusho). This affects your residence card, insurance, banking, and more.

1. Why Register Your Address?

  • Update your Residence Card (Zairyu Card) address
  • Receive official mail and tax notices
  • Required for bank accounts, phone contracts, and most official procedures
  • Get your Juminhyo (住民票) — residence certificate needed everywhere

2. Documents Needed

  • 💳 Residence Card (Zairyu Card)
  • 🛂 Passport
  • 📋 Move-in notification form (Tenyuu Todoke)
  • 📄 If moving within Japan: Certificate of Moving Out (Tenko Shomei) from previous ward

3. Steps

  • Go to the Shiyakusho/Kuyakusho where your NEW address is
  • Find the "住民票・転入届" counter
  • Fill out the move-in form (staff will help)
  • Submit documents → processed in 5–10 minutes
  • Receive updated Zairyu Card with new address

4. Cost & Hours

  • 💰 Free
  • 🕐 Mon–Fri, 8:30–17:15 (some wards open Saturdays)

💡 Tip: Get your My Number Card to print Juminhyo at Konbini and access online services!
