When you move to a new address in Japan, you must register within 14 days at your local city or ward office (Shiyakusho/Kuyakusho). This affects your residence card, insurance, banking, and more.
1. Why Register Your Address?
- Update your Residence Card (Zairyu Card) address
- Receive official mail and tax notices
- Required for bank accounts, phone contracts, and most official procedures
- Get your Juminhyo (住民票) — residence certificate needed everywhere
2. Documents Needed
- 💳 Residence Card (Zairyu Card)
- 🛂 Passport
- 📋 Move-in notification form (Tenyuu Todoke)
- 📄 If moving within Japan: Certificate of Moving Out (Tenko Shomei) from previous ward
3. Steps
- Go to the Shiyakusho/Kuyakusho where your NEW address is
- Find the "住民票・転入届" counter
- Fill out the move-in form (staff will help)
- Submit documents → processed in 5–10 minutes
- Receive updated Zairyu Card with new address
