Narita Express vs Skyliner vs Access Express — Which to take?

Three train options from Narita to Tokyo. Price, speed, comfort and destination compared.

Narita Express (N'EX)

60 min Narita→Tokyo Station (also stops Shibuya, Shinjuku, Yokohama). ¥3,070 one-way, ¥5,000 round-trip (tourist special). Reserved seats, luggage racks with lock, WiFi. JR Pass fully covers — no extra fee. Best for: JR Pass holders, Tokyo Station/Shinjuku hotels.

Keisei Skyliner

41 min Narita→Nippori, 44 min→Ueno. ¥2,570. Reserved seats (¥1,250 base + ¥1,320 limited express). Luggage racks. WiFi. Fastest option. Then transfer to JR Yamanote at Nippori (3 min). Best for: Ueno/Asakusa hotels, speed-priority travelers.

Keisei Access Express

55 min Narita→Asakusa, 75 min→Shinagawa. ¥1,270-¥1,400. Regular seats, no reservation. Less comfortable, but HALF the price of N'EX/Skyliner. Best for: budget travelers, Asakusa/Nihombashi hotels, tolerance for less luggage space.

Decision matrix

JR Pass? → N'EX. Going to Ueno/Asakusa? → Skyliner (fastest) OR Access Express (cheapest). Going to Shinjuku/Tokyo? → N'EX. Going to Shinagawa? → N'EX or Access Express. Budget-conscious? → Access Express. Groups with lots of luggage? → N'EX (luggage racks).

Alternatives worth knowing

**Limousine Bus**: ¥3,100, 90-120 min to Shinjuku/hotel direct. Good if your hotel is on the route and you have lots of bags. **Taxi**: ¥20,000-30,000, 60-90 min depending on traffic. Only worthwhile for 3-4 people with large luggage. **Narita Shuttle (fixed-fare taxi)**: ~¥4,500/person, can book advance.
