eSIM — activate at baggage claim
Open Settings → Cellular → Japan eSIM → Data Roaming ON. Takes 30-90 sec to get signal. By the time you clear customs, you have full 4G/5G.
Physical SIM counter
Narita Terminal 1 arrivals has 3-4 SIM counters (Softbank, NTT, Mobile Center). Queue 15-30 min. Plans ¥2,500-5,000. OK if you forgot eSIM — but more expensive than eSIM.
Pocket WiFi pickup
Pre-book online, pickup at Terminal 1 / 2 / 3 arrival counters. Queue 10-20 min. Return at same airport or another airport (for ¥500 fee). Charger not always included — check before paying.
