Tokyo and Osaka are Japan's two biggest travel hubs and the country's busiest highway-bus pair. 100+ overnight buses connect Shinjuku, Tokyo Station and Ikebukuro with Umeda, Namba OCAT and Tennoji every night. Fares start at ¥3,500 one-way — under a quarter of the Shinkansen's ¥14,000.
Why pick the bus over Shinkansen?
- Price: ¥3,500–¥9,000 vs Shinkansen's ¥14,000+
- Overnight buses save a hotel night (¥6,000–¥10,000)
- Most buses have free WiFi, USB, toilet, blankets
- Easy online booking with Visa/Mastercard/JCB/PayPal
Night bus or day bus?
Night buses maximise sightseeing: depart Tokyo 22:00, arrive Osaka 06:30 — full day in the new city. Day buses (08:00–17:30) are more comfortable with Mt. Fuji and Alps views but use a whole day.
